My Happy Ending

It might seem awkward, yes I know that..but I am still hoping and working to get my happy ending....did I just say my happy ending? Yes! The happy ending that I am expecting is not the kind you might have on your mind right now, I mean that included but it doesn't end there, definitely not!

I like to say that my life is different..different from everyone else's. And it kind of feels good to be different. The minute you start to think outside the wall, to do things differently, to truly be yourself and get loose into the world of your own, your creativity, authenticity and relevance emerges. Sometimes the problem we often have is not that we're afraid to be the odd man out, but in accepting who we really are.

I'm not saying this because I'm a woman and I...well, as a woman I'm expected to get  a nice young man and have a lovely family which should be my happy ending..well it goes beyond that, because I hope to see my dreams come true, my hardwork rewarded, my impact felt. I hope to be among the world changers who in spite of the odds, choose to do the right thing. Therein lies also my happy ending. I believe so because life doesn't just end in going to school and having a family of your own. That is absolutely amazing, but you won't be remembered after you're gone if what you did when you were alive was what everyone else did, what then makes you unique?

I choose to be different, you should do the same too. Aside what everyone does, what do you have to offer to your family, your society and the world at large?  The little help you rendered to someone in need, the little you had but shared with others, the little efforts you made to make your country or society better, the many little things you did with your whole heart, even though no one recognised, could make a whole difference.

You don't have to do so much at the moment if you can't, but sooner or later, you'll discover that it is only those times when you helped someone win rather than win them that flourishes in your memory; those times when you chose creativity over complaining with majority; those times you chose to make a difference. Those are the times that endure more. The likes of Mark Zuckerberg of Face book, Bill Gates of Microsoft, Steve Jobs of Apple who change the world through computers, and passionate writers like Wole Shoyinka, Chinua Achebe, William Shakespeare and many others who change the world through literature; those who speak to the world through arts, music, film and a whole lot of other media...those are the people that experienced real happy endings. And we need to find ours too, because the world you make better today,  will thank you for it tomorrow. If we can open our minds to the truth buried in us and determine to nuture it, we'll begin to make impacts, greater than we've ever imagined...positive impacts that improve our lives for the better- now,  that is a happy ending.
